Synthesis

Thus far in my two years at Mankato, I have only reached the tip of the iceberg of the depths of culture, and diversity that we all must strive for. This quote above I had seen somewhere really stuck with me. Although I am just one person, I have the power to change the world around me. By educating myself on different backgrounds on my fellow peers I understand them on a deeper level. I have a will to understand where people come from and what makes them who they are. I have learned by attending speaker events and interactive activities that we must ask the hard questions. How are we supposed to unify as a world if we can't have hard conversations? I am not saying it is easy, but we have to challenge ourselves. Although it is cliche, communication is key. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and everyone is unique. Intercultural engagement increases our awareness and empathy towards others. We learn and we feel. I have so much growth ahead of me and the Honors Program has gifted me with an abundance of opportunities to learn so much more.
